In addition to research, John Nimmo has served on the USGS INL Actinide-Migration Review Panel, formed in 1998 and comprising 14 NRP and District scientists of the USGS. The panel’s purpose is to evaluate (1) the processes by which selected radionuclides, chiefly actinides, may be migrating faster and farther within the unsaturated zone than previous models predicted, and (2) the ongoing program of investigation and modeling by DOE contractors to predict this sort of migration.
