David Rogers | College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Australia | The Art-Science of Earthquakes | Leaving No trace, the Parkfield Interventional EQ Fieldwork (PIEQF) was a geologically interactive, seismic machine earthwork temporarily installed in the remote township of Parkfield, Central California, USA, 2008. Interfaced with the US Geological Survey seismic monitoring network, the PIEQF was triggered by near real-time reported Californian earthquake waves from Magnitude (M) 0.1 and above. For this presentation D.V. Rogers will explain the conceptual premise behind installation as well as present a series of documentation produced around the work. Working at the crossroads of art and earth science, Rogers will also put forward the idea of how early 21st century cultural practice could be used to encourage earthquake awareness and preparedness within the state of California. |
