Following previous discussions we are proposing the following agenda for the mini-meeting. This is designed to immediately precede the Davos (Goldschmidt) meeting (starting the 18th August) as well as the BIOGEOMON Reading meeting (starting 17th August). Here is the timetable – it is base on Wallingford.

 

Wednesday 14th

 

Arrival and overnight in Blewbury. Garden Party.

 

Thursday 15th

 

WRI Committee meeting 09.00 –11.00

Mini Symposium – 30 years of Water Rock Interaction

To be held at BGS/CEH centre in Wallingford 11.00 – 17.00 with lunch

Probable speakers: T Paces, Y Kharaka, H.Armansson, S Brantley, L Fanfani, W M Edmunds (WRI ). Additional speakers: W Darling, P.Shand, D Gooddy, P.Smedley, D G Kinniburgh. Also Tom Shepherd, and others from BGS. Plus others if time permits.

 

Dinner – to be arranged. Overnight Blewbury.

 

Friday 16th August

 

Field visit to Dorset. This is one of the classical areas of British Geology, especially for the Cretaceous-Jurassic sequence. We will visit the onshore oilfield areas near Poole Harbour, the Dorset Chalk basin where studies related to Baseline groundwater geochemistry, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) are in progress as well as studies of the palaeohydrology, Lulworth Cove and the adjacent coastline with spectacular Alpine folding. Overnight probably in Lyme Regis.

 

Saturday 17th August

 

Departure for Wallingford/London/Oxford – arrival midday.

The 11th International Symposium on Water-Rock Interaction (WRI-11) will be held June 27-July 2, 2004 in Saratoga Springs, New York, USA. The Symposium is organized by the Working Group on Water Rock Interaction of the International Association of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry with the assistance of The Pennsylvania State University.
