PROJECT STAFF

James Kuwabara received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1975, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Science from California Institute of Technology in 1976 and 1980, respectively. He joined the USGS as a National Research Council Post-Doctoral Associate in 1980, and has served as chief of the research project on "Benthic Fluxes of Metals and Nutrients" for the National Research Program (NRP) within the USGS Water Mission Area since 1986. Jim continues to serve on Editorial Boards for journals and other scientific publications, as well as serving as Research Advisor for the NRP's Ecology Subdiscipline.

Brent Topping received his B.S. in Physics with specialization in Earth Science from U.S. San Diego in 1993. While finishing his degree, he worked at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, providing analytical support. He started at the USGS and joined this project in 1994. He serves as the analytical chemist, specializing in trace metal, dissolved-organic-carbon and macronutrient analysis. He also trains and supports other projects in these areas.
